The title of this fluid exhibition-in-progress stems from the nature of the Curiator platform, as well as my personal approach to curating, which revolves around the constant research of various exhibition contexts and artistic practices, as much as it does around studio visits and conversations with artists.
Sketchbook brings together my visual notes in a diaristic form. It is a collection of works I have seen or included in my curatorial projects over the last few years that have influenced my thinking about the ways in which art works can initiate dialogue with its diverse public by tackling historical, social, cultural or political matters.
The exhibition is not focused on one particular medium or topic. Instead, the artists represented in Sketchbook use of distinctive aesthetics and mediums, which range from collage, abstract painting, and photography, to public workshops, room-sized installations, and a public video screening. By playfully and cleverly occupying and transforming outdoor spaces and the traditional white cube, these artists consider compelling subjects and create a range of experiences for viewers.
Zeljka Himbele is also curating my upcoming solo at Gallery MK (galerija miroslav kraljevic) Zagreb, Croatia opening Dec 4th (until Dec 24th)
