ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Uniquely innovative artist Cheryl Gross is a storyteller. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York Gross was constantly surrounded by culture, visible representation of class systems, and more accessible non-traditional art. These surroundings exposed her to a variety of issues that required awareness. With a BFA and MFA from Pratt Institute, Gross concocted a distinctive style connecting illustrative drawing to motion art. Her work draws in audiences through storytelling while simultaneously focusing on political, environmental, and societal issues, symbolizing the evolution of society and how different areas of concern pass by unnoticeably.
Breaking the silence, Gross enhances the voice of the issues through non-traditional means. Effectively using harsh linework, color and text to create a multi-level experience for the viewers. With influence from vintage editorial cartoons, you can find mixed media illustrations, paintings, and books in her portfolio. Gross’s work has been displayed at numerous institutions and selected for many permanent collections including, but not limited to; Mana Contemporary, NJCU, Monmouth Museum (2025), Montclair Museum (2024), Rockefeller Center (2023), ArtFair 14C, St. Peters University (2020), Novado Gallery, Kentler International Drawing Space (2019), Museum of the City of New York (1999-2000), Riverside Museum (1992), Laforet Harajuku Museum (1988), The New Museum (1985), The Brooklyn Museum (1983-1985), and various other institutions, festivals, galleries, residencies and awards. Additionally, Cheryl’s work has appeared in numerous films, television shows, and publications.
She currently teaches at Pratt Institute and continues her artistic endeavors in the New York/New Jersey area, while continuing to inspire others internationally.
